惊弓之鸟 Birds Startled by the Mere Twang of a Bowstring
战 国 时 期(公 元 前403―221年 中 国 中 原 地 区 各 诸 侯 国 连 年 争 战 的 时 代)魏 国 有 个 名 叫 更 羸 的 人。一 天,他 对 国 王说:“我 只 要 拉 开 弓,空 射 一 下,就 能 把 天 上 的 鸟 射 下 来。”国王 不 相 信。更 羸 便 对 准 天 上飞 来 的 一 只 雁 射 去,果 真 那 只 雁 听 到 拉 弦 的 声 音 就 掉 了 下 来。国 王感 到 很 奇 怪。更 羸 说,“那 是 一 只 受 过 伤 的 雁。它 一 听 到 我 拉 开 弓 弦的 声 响,就 惊 慌 得 支 持 不 住,自 然 要 掉 下 来 了。”“惊 弓 之 鸟”这 个 成 语 比 喻 受 过 惊 恐 之 后,有 一 点 动 静 就 特 别 害 怕。 zhàn guó shí qī (gōng yuán qián 403- -221 nián zhōng guó zhōng yuán dì qū gè zhū hóu guó lián nián zhēng zhàn de shí dài) wèi guó yóu gè míng jiào gēng léi de rén. yī tiān, tā duì guó wáng shuō: " wǒ zhī yào lā kāi gōng jiù néng bǎ tiān shàng de niǎo shè xià lái." guó wáng bù xiāng xìn. gèng léi biàn duì zhǔn tiān shàng fēi lái de yī zhī yàn shè qù. guǒ zhēn nà zhī yàn tīng dào lā xián de shēng yīn jiù diào le xià lái. guó wáng gǎn dào hěn qí guài. gèng léi shuō, "nà shì yī zhī shòu guò shāng de yàn. tā yī tīng dào wǒ lā kāi gōng xián de shēng xiǎng jiù jīng huāng de zhī chí bú zhù, zì rán yào diào xià lái le. "jīng gōng zhī niǎo" zhè gè chéng yǔ bǐ yù shòu guò jīng kǒng zhī hòu, yǒu yī diǎn dòng jìng jiù tè bié hài pà. In the Warring States Period, there was a man in the State of Wei called Geng Lei. One day he said to the king: 'I can shoot down birds by simply plucking my bowstring.' When the king expressed doubt, Geng Lei pointed his bow at a wild goose flying in the sky, twanged the bowstring, and the goose fell to the ground. Geng Lei said, 'This goose has been hurt in the past. Hearing the twang of the bowstring, it assumed that it was doomed. So it simply gave up trying to live.' 毛遂自荐 Mao Sui Recommending Himself
战 国 时 代,秦 国 军 队 攻 打 赵 国 的 都 城。赵 国 的 平 原 君 打算 亲 自 到 楚 国 去 请救 兵,想 挑 选 一 个 精 明 能 干 的 人 一 同前 去。有 一 个 名 叫 毛 遂 的 人,自 告 奋 勇愿 意 同 去。平 原 君 到 楚 国 后,与 楚 王 谈 了 半 天,没 有 一 点 结 果。毛 遂 怒 气 冲 冲地 拿 着 宝 剑,逼 近 楚 王,终 于 迫 使 楚 王 答 应 出 兵,与 赵 国 联合 共 同 抵 抗 秦 国。“毛 遂 自 荐”这 个 成 语 用 来 比 喻 自 己 推 荐 自 己,不 必 别 人 介 绍。 zhàn guó shí dài qín guó jūn duì gōng dǎ zhào guó de dū chéng. zhào guó de píng yuán jūn dǎ suàn qīn zì dào chǔ guó qù qǐng jiù bīng, xiǎng tiāo xuǎn yī gè jīng míng néng gàn de rén yī tóng qián qù. yǒu yī gè míng jiào máo suì de rén, zì gào fèn yǒng tóng qù. píng yuán jūn dào chǔ guó hòu, yǔ zhǔ wáng tán le bàn tiān, méi yǒu yī diǎn jié guǒ máo suì nù qì chōng chōng dì ná zhe bǎo jiàn bī jìn chǔ wáng zhōng yú pò shǐ chǔ wáng dá yìng chū bīng yǔ zhào guó lián hé gòng tóng dǐ kàng qín guó. "máo suì zì jiàn" zhè gè chéng yǔ yòng lái bǐ yù zì jǐ tuī jiàn zì jǐ bù bì bié rén jiè shào. In the Warring States Period, the State of Qin besieged the capital of the State of Zhao. Duke Pingyuan of Zhao planned to ask the ruler of the State of Chu personally for assistance. He wanted to select a capable man to go with him. A man called Mao Sui volunteered. When the negoti-actions between the two states were stalled because the ruler of Chu hesitated to send troops, Mao Sui approached him, brandishing a sword. 世外桃源 A Haven of Peace and Happiness
东 晋 的 文 学 家 陶 渊 明 写 了 一 篇 著 名 的 文 章 叫 《桃 花 源 记》。叙 述 一 个 渔 人 出 外 捕 鱼 的 时 候,偶 然 来 到 了 桃 花 源 这 个 地 方。从 这 里 通 过 一 个 山 洞,发 现 了一 个 村 子,这 里 的 居 民 是 秦 朝 时 避 难 人 的 后 代。这 是 一 个 与 世 隔 绝、没 有 剥 削和 压 迫、人 人 安 居 乐 业 的 美 好 社 会。渔 人 告 别 村 民 回 家 以 后,再也 找 不 到 这 个 地 方 了。 后 来,由 这 个 故 事 产 生 了“世 外 桃 源”这 个 成 语,用 来 比 喻 与世 隔 绝 的、理 想的 美 好 世 界。 dōng jìn de wén xué jiā táo yuān míng xiě le yī piàn zhù míng de wén zhāng jiào 《táo huā yuán jì》. xù shù yī gè yú rén chū wài bǔ yú de shí hòu, ǒu rán lái dào le táo huā yuán zhè gè dì fāng. cóng zhè lǐ tōng guò yī gè shān dòng, fā xiàn le yī gè cūn zǐ, zhè lǐ de jū mín shì qín cháo shí bì nán rén de hòu dài. zhè shì yī gè yǔ shì gé jué 、méi yǒu bo xuē hé yā pò、 rén rén ān jū lè yè de měi hǎo shè huì。 yú rén gào bié cūn mín huí jiā yǐ hòu zài yě zhǎo bù dào zhè gè dì fāng le。hòu lái yóu zhè gè gù shì chǎn shēng le “shì wài táo yuán” zhè gè chéng yǔ,yòng lái bǐ yù yǔ shì gé jué de、 lǐ xiǎng de měi hǎo shì jiè。 Tao Yuanming, a famous writer of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420), wrote the well-known essay Peach-Blossom Spring. In it he tells a story which goes like this: A fisherman happened to come upon a place called Peach-Blossom Spring. Squeezing through a cave, he found a village, the residents of which were descendants of refugees from the Qin Dynasty. It was a paradise isolated from the outside world, without exploitation or oppression, and everybody living and working in peace and contentment. The fisherman left the villagers and went home. But he could never find the place again. 画龙点睛 Putting the Finishing Touch to the Picture of a Dragon
南 北 朝(公 元420--589)时 期,有 个 画 家 叫 张 僧 繇。有 一 次,他 到 一 个 寺 庙 去 游 玩,在 墙 壁 上 面 画 了 四 条 龙,可 是 都 没 有 画 出眼 睛。看 画 的 人 觉 得 很 奇 怪,问 他为 什 么 不 画 出 眼 睛。他 说:“眼 睛 是 龙 的 关 键,画 上 眼 睛,龙 就 会 飞 走 了。”大 家 不 相 信 他 说 的 话。张 僧 繇 拿 起 笔 来,刚 给 两 条 龙 点 上 眼 睛,立 刻 电 闪 雷 鸣,两 条 龙 飞 向 天 空,墙 上 只 剩 下 两 条 没 有 画眼 睛 的 龙。“画 龙 点 睛”这 个 成 语 用 来 比 喻 讲 话 或 写 文 章 时,在 关 键 地 方 加 一 两 句 重 要的 话,使 内 容 更 加 生 动 有 力。 nán běi cháo (gōng yuán420--589) shí qī, yǒu gè huà jiā jiào zhāng sēng yáo 。yǒu yī cì, tā dào yī gè sì miào qù you wán zài qiáng bì shàng miàn huà le sì tiáo lóng, kě shì dōu méi yǒu huà chū yǎn jīng。 kàn huà de rén jiào dé hěn qí guài ,wèn tā wéi shén me bù huà chū yǎn jīng。tā shuō:“yǎn jīng shì lóng de guān jiàn,huà shàng yǎn jīng,lóng jiù huì fēi zǒu le。” dà jiā bù xiāng xìn tā shuō de huà。zhāng sēng yáo ná qǐ bǐ lái gāng gěi liǎng tiáo lóng diǎn shàng yǎn jīng,diàn shǎn léi míng liǎng tiáo lóng fēi xiàng tiān kōng qiáng shàng zhī shèng xià liǎng tiáo méi yǒu huà yǎn jīng de lóng。 In the Southern and Northern Dynasties Period (420-589), there was a painter called Zhang Sengyou. Once he visited a temple and painted on the wall four dragons, but gave none of them eyes. The onlookers felt that this was odd, and asked why he hadn't painted the eyes. He answered, 'Eyes are crucial for dragons. With the eyes painted on, the dragons would fly away.' Nobody believed this, so Zhang Sengyou took up his brush and added eyes to two of the dragons. No sooner had he finished than the two dragons flew into the sky amid a thunderstorm. The two without eyes stayed painted on the wall. 画蛇添足 Drawing a snake and Adding Feet
战 国 时 代 有 个 楚 国 人 祭 他 的 祖 先。仪 式 结 束 后,他 拿 出 一 壶 酒 赏 给 手 下 的几 个 人。大 家 商 量 说:“我 们 都 来 画 蛇,谁 先 画好 谁 就 喝 这 壶 酒。”其 中 有 一 个人 先 画 好 了。但 他 看 到 同 伴 还 没 有 画 完,就 又 给 蛇 添 上 了 脚。这 时,另 一 个 人也 画 好 了,夺 过 酒 壶 把 酒 喝 了,并 且 说:“蛇 本 来 是 没 有 脚 的,你 怎 么 能 给 它添 上 脚 呢?” “画 蛇 添 足”这 个 成 语 比 喻 做 了 多 余 而 不 恰 当 的 事,反 而 把 事 情 弄 糟 了。 zhàn guó shí dà iyǒu gè chǔ guó rén jì tā de zǔ xiān。yí shì jié shù hòu tā ná chū yī hú jiǔ shǎng gěi shǒu xià de jǐ gè rén。dà jiā shāng liàng shuō:“ wǒ men dōu lái huà shé,shuí xiān huà hǎo shuí jiù hē zhè hú jiǔ。” qí zhōng yǒu yī gè rén xiān huà hǎo le。dàn tā kàn dào tóng bàn hái méi yǒu huà wán ,jiù yòu gěi shé tiān shàng le jiǎo 。zhè shí ,lìng yī gè rén yě huà hǎo le,duó guò jiǔ hú bǎ jiǔ hē le,bìng qiě shuō :“shé běn lái shì méi yǒu jiǎo de,nǐ zěn me néng gěi tā tiān shàng jiǎo ne?” “huà shé tiān zú” zhè gè chéng yǔ bǐ yù zuò le duō yú ér bù qià dāng de shì ,fǎn ér bǎ shì qíng nòng zāo le。 In the Warring States Period, a man in the State of Chu was offering a sacrifice to his ancestors. After the ceremony, the man gave a beaker of wine to his servants. The servants thought that there was not enough wine for all them, and decided to each draw a picture of a snake; the one who finished the picture first would get the wine. One of them drew very rapidly. Seeing that the others were still busy drawing, he added feet to the snake. At this moment another man finished, snatched the beaker and drank the wine, saying, 'A snake doesn't have feet. 班门弄斧 Showing Off One's Proficiency with the Axe Before Lu Ban the Master Carpenter
